Drought in Europe in late February 2026

Long term drought conditions over Europe slowly improved in late February. The recent meteorological drought partially recovered in northern Europe.

Temperatures were slightly above average, with short warm spells in central and north-western Europe.

Global drought overview in late February 2026

According to the Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) based on ERA5 data, in late February, negative anomalies are present in central-eastern Europe, central-eastern North America, southern and central-eastern South America, most of Africa, central-eastern Asia, and south-eastern Oceania.
