Drought conditions over north-eastern Europe expanded and worsened in late April, remaining stable over the rest of Europe.
Europe experienced warmer than average temperatures and a short warm spell in the Iberian Peninsula, and close-to-average temperatures elsewhere.
According to the Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) based on ERA5 data, in late April, negative anomalies are present in central-eastern and northern Europe, two large regions in North America, northern South America, Andes, central and western Africa, Madagascar, and central, south-eastern, and northern Asia.
