Drought in Europe in late March 2026

Long term drought conditions over Europe worsened in late March over central-eastern Europe. North-eastern Europe continues to be affected by the recent meteorological drought.

Temperatures were close to average in Europe, with only warm spells in north-eastern Europe.

Global drought overview in late March 2026

According to the Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) based on ERA5 data, in late March, negative anomalies are present in central-eastern Europe, central North America, central and north-eastern South America, central Africa, central, eastern and south-eastern Asia, and eastern Oceania.
